Talkin' to The Dead

Okay so I recently (like a couple of weeks ago) was part of a group divination with Harmony Phoenix and I was told that I connect with my ancestors through dreaming. I was also told that having a glass of water near either the foot or head of my bed with a mirror facing away from the glass would help facilitate and protect my dreams. The other day I pulled my water glass out from under my bed and I saw that the waterline was lower than what was in there originally and it was cloudy. What does that mean?
